What is Apple One, how much is it, and how does it work?

Key Takeaways

  • Apple One is a subscription bundle that combines various Apple services and offers better value than buying each subscription separately.
  • There are three tiers available: Individual, Family, and Premier, each offering different services and iCloud storage options.
  • Apple One saves subscribers money, with savings ranging from $9 to nearly $29 depending on the plan.

Aside from its range of incredible smartphones, laptops, desktops and tech accessories, Apple is probably most known for the way all of its products work together, creating the mythical Apple ecosystem. The way all the company’s devices work together is next to magical, and makes for a compelling reason to stick to the brand’s equipment.

However, this cooperation is not limited to Apple’s hardware, as it heavily relies on various subscription services that make your experience using your iPhone or MacBook even better. Thanks to Apple Music, Apple TV+ or iCloud, among others, you can make your time in front of the screen even more enjoyable or productive.

That being said, subscribing to each of Apple’s subscription programs can quickly turn pricey, especially if you want your whole family to have access to all these goodies. Fortunately, Apple thought of that and came up with Apple One — a subscription program that helps you save some of your precious dollars by getting all your favorite subscriptions in a handy bundle.

Why Apple won’t give more than 5GB of iCloud storage for free

Even though iCloud is necessary to back up everything from your photos to your apps, you get barely any storage for free from Apple. Here’s why.

What is Apple One?

A subscription buddle for Apple services

A blue iPhone 15 and a red iPhone 15 Plus over a green background.

Apple One is a subscription service bundle, similar to Amazon Prime or Google One. However, contrary to the latter, it does not focus only on cloud storage with some small additional benefits – it’s a whole batch of other goodies that Apple has up its sleeve wrapped nicely into one monthly payment.

Apple’s subscription bundle includes five standalone services: Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, Apple News+, and Apple Fitness+. On top of that, the bundle also expands your iCloud storage. Depending on the subscription tier, you can get from 50GB of cloud storage, up to as much as 2TB of online disk space, which might be a game-changer if you’re also short on backup space for your photos.

What does Apple One include?

Apple services unpacked

Apple One-2

Thanks to the Apple One subscription, you can easily start using all the services that the Cupertino-based company has on its roster. That means you can expect it to include the most useful of its subscription services, such as Apple Music, Apple TV+, and many others — depending on which subscription tier you choose.

What’s important to mention is, along with these subscription services, each Apple One subscription tier also comes with an additional benefit of increased iCloud storage. Considering that the free tier only includes 5GB of storage, it’s a great boon to add on top of all the other subscription services. Here’s everything you can expect to get when buying Apple One:

Apple One benefit

Details

Apple TV+

Apple’s video streaming service offers a range of TV shows, movies, and children’s content, including Apple’s original productions with new content added monthly.

Apple Music

Apple Music is the company’s music streaming solution. It features a huge library of over 100 million songs and 30,000 playlists, along with the ability to stream studio-quality hi-fi files included in the price. What’s more, the service also comes with many additional features, such as Spatial Audio and a live music radio station and is, of course, ad-free.

Apple Arcade

Apple Arcade is the company’s first foray into gaming. Thanks to the service, you can get access to a collection of over 200 high-quality games, free from ads and additional in-app purchases. All of them are available for play online or offline on Apple devices, but most of them are aimed at mobile devices rather than PCs.

iCloud+

Provides 50GB, 200GB or 2TB of storage for a variety of files, depending on the Apple One tier of your choice. Moreover, aside from the space for all your files, it features synchronization across devices and privacy protection — a crucial component of the streamlined Apple ecosystem experience.

Apple Fitness+

Apple’s fitness app features a variety of workout types, including HIIT, Yoga, and Meditation, with new sessions added weekly. It helps you get in shape and create habits that will last a lifetime, and all that with a huge number of customization options and tips to help you progress at your own pace.

Apple News+

Provides access to a wide range of magazines and newspapers, covering local news and sports. It also includes audio stories if you prefer listening to your news.

How much does Apple One cost?

Tiers and Pricing

Apple One-3

As we’ve mentioned before, Apple One actually has a few pricing tiers to choose from. This allows you to tailor the bundle to your needs and get exactly what you require, without the need to pay for services that you won’t be using. These tiers differ in three main ways, aside from their price. Firstly, you get different amounts of iCloud storage. Secondly, the highest tier includes more subscription services in its price, helping you save even more. Finally, Family and Premier plans make it possible to share all the included subscriptions among up to five family members. Here’s all you get with these plans:

Plan

Price

What’s included?

Individual

$19.95

Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, and 50GB of iCloud+ storage.

Family

$25.95

Up to five members of your family get Apple Music, Apple TV+, and Apple Arcade, and can share 200GB of iCloud storage.

Premier

$37.95

Includes all the previous benefits, but ups the shared iCloud+ storage to 2TB and adds subscriptions to the News+ magazine and newspaper service and the Fitness+ service.

When deciding on which plan to use, keep in mind that the Family and Premier plans allow users to add up to five other people to their subscription. The individual plan doesn’t allow you to add any additional users to the whole bundle, although some included subscriptions, such as Apple TV+ and Apple Arcade, still give you this ability.

Apple One saves you money on your suite of Apple subscriptions, but the amount depends on your plan. At $20 per month, the Individual plan saves subscribers about $9 over separately subscribing to all the included services. The Family plan, which costs $26 per month, saves subscribers around $11.

The real value option, though, is the Premier plan, which costs $29.95 a month but works out to nearly $29 of savings. Here, the bulk of the savings are the additional News+ and Fitness+ subscriptions that are not included in the cheaper plans.

For extra savings, customers who pay with an
Apple Card
in the US will get an extra 3 percent cash back.

Is there a free trial?

Try it out before you buy

Apple One-1

As any single subscription service from Apple, Apple One also includes the ability to try the whole subscription bundle for free. However, there are some caveats that you need to keep in mind.

If it’s your first time using any Apple subscription services, your free trial will last for a month, and you’ll get all these subscriptions for free. However, if you’re already paying for some of them, you’ll only get a free trial for the ones new to you — your existing subscriptions will be billed normally for that trial period. Once the trial is over, and you switch to a paid Apple One plan, these separate charges will stop, and you’ll just pay for the unified Apple One subscription.
